Hitachi Rail Wins Major Thai Railway Upgrade Contract
Hitachi Rail has secured a significant contract to upgrade two major railway projects in Thailand. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is refurbishing and upgrading mainline railways, with the European Train Control System (ETCS) as the chosen national train control system. This will enhance speed, reliability, and safety on the Northeast Line from Nong Waeng Rai to Nong Phok and the North Line from Den Chai to Ngao, totaling 780.7 km.
Hitachi Rail, led by Hannes Boyer, Vice President of Mainline Signalling, will install its proven ETCS solution on these tracks. The company's system is already in use on over 26,000 kilometres of mainline railway signalling systems worldwide. This project is part of Thailand's long-term double-track development programme to improve intercity rail connections. Three vehicles will also be fitted with the ETCS system, further enhancing safety and efficiency.
The upgrade of these two major railway infrastructure projects in Thailand is expected to significantly improve train travel in the region. With Hitachi Rail's expertise and the implementation of the ETCS system, passengers can look forward to faster, more reliable, and safer journeys.
