The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ather Energy Limited, an EV maker, to collaborate on building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem in India. This partnership, part of the Startup Policy Forum's (SPF) Build in Bharat initiative, aims to support India's transition towards sustainable transport and create a more enabling environment for manufacturing-oriented startups.

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum, believes that unlocking the potential of India's manufacturing sector through collaboration is crucial. Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, shares this sentiment and is pleased to collaborate with DPIIT to strengthen support systems for hardware and deep-tech startups.

The focus of the agreement is on strategic mentorship for deeptech startups, infrastructure support for startups in the EV value chain, and co-hosted talent and skill development initiatives. Joint innovation programs such as the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge are also included in the collaboration.

According to Tarun Mehta, this initiative can help founders tackle core technology challenges and scale high-quality products from India with policy support and stronger industry participation. Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh, believes the electric mobility sector in India is entering a transformative phase.

The collaboration extends to participation in events like Startup Mahakumbh and on-ground exposure visits. Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, Tarun Mehta, and Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh, signed the MoU to formalise this partnership.

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum, states that this partnership brings the Startup Policy Forum's Build in Bharat initiative to life. Through the partnership with Ather Energy, DPIIT aims to create an environment where startups can contribute significantly to EV manufacturing, battery innovation, and clean energy solutions.

Ather Energy competes with Ola Electric in India's booming electric vehicle market. The collaboration is expected to foster innovation and competition, ultimately benefiting consumers and driving India towards a sustainable future.
