Google Wallet for Android Gets Major Material 3 Redesign
Google Play Wallet for Android is undergoing a significant revamp with a Material 3 Expressive redesign, rolling out now. Users can expect a refreshed interface and improved functionality.
The update, version 25.38, is being pushed out via server-side, reaching most Android devices. Some users have seen the changes since June, but the rollout has been gradual.
The app's homepage now features a new icon, replacing 'Wallet', and a large square Floating Action Button (FAB) has taken the place of the 'Add to Wallet' button. Past transactions are now grouped in containers for better visibility on credit and debit card pages. Dynamic Color is used for card backgrounds, adding a touch of personalisation.
On newer Pixel devices, the tap-to-pay success animation and Google Wallet overlay have been refreshed with the Material 3 Expressive design. The 'Archived passes' button has been redesigned to a pill shape. The Add to Wallet menu and Settings page have also seen improvements in grouping for easier navigation.
Users who haven't received the update yet can try force stopping the app to trigger the redesign.
The Google Wallet redesign brings a fresh, modern look to the app, with improved organisation and personalisation. The rollout is ongoing, with some users already enjoying the changes. Those yet to see the update can try force stopping the app to expedite the process.
