Google Unveils New Home Speaker with Gemini AI, Eco-Friendly Design
Google has unveiled its latest smart speaker, the Google Home Speaker, set to launch next spring. The device introduces Gemini for Home AI, replacing Google Assistant, and offers natural conversations without repeating 'Hey Google'.
The Google Home Speaker comes in a new spherical design, available in Jade, Berry, Porcelain, and Hazel. Its shell is eco-friendly, made from 39% recycled materials and wrapped in yarn created through a unique 3D knitting process to reduce fabric waste.
The device will retail for £99.99 / $99.99 and will be available in multiple regions including the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. It was first spotted during Google's launch event in August, looking like a chunkier, rounder version of the Google Nest Mini.
The Google Home Speaker requires a Google Home subscription to unlock its best features, including Gemini Live. The Standard subscription costs £8/$10 per month or £80/$100 per year, offering home automation and sound detection. A Premium subscription is required for Gemini Live, starting at $10 per month or $100 annually for the Standard plan, with an Advanced tier available at higher pricing. A 6-month free trial of the Standard subscription is included with the purchase of the Google Home Speaker.
The Google Home Speaker, launching next spring, brings Gemini for Home AI to the smart speaker market. With its eco-friendly design and natural conversation capabilities, it promises to enhance the user experience. Subscription plans are available to unlock its full potential, with a free trial included.
