Google introduces new features for Google Photos: Photo-to-Video, Remix, and Create tabs, all available at no cost.
In an exciting development, Google Photos has unveiled a new feature that allows users to transform their still images into dynamic, six-second video clips. Known as Photo-to-video, this innovative tool is part of the latest update to Google's popular photo management app.
The Photo-to-video feature is powered by Google's Veo 2 generative AI model, which offers two animation styles: "Subtle movements" and "I'm feeling lucky". The former adds small, light motions to the image, while the latter creates more imaginative animations, such as family members tossing confetti. These short videos can be easily shared within the app.
The new feature is being introduced with a dedicated **Create** tab, which will also include access to other AI-powered tools such as Remix, collages, highlight videos, and more. The rollout of the Create tab begins in August in the US, with the Photo-to-video feature available starting today.
Unlike the Gemini AI app, where the photo-to-video capability is currently only available to paid users, Google Photos' Photo-to-video feature is **free to use** for all users. Both apps leverage the same generative AI technology (Veo 2), but Google Photos bundles this functionality into its widely used photo gallery app without extra cost, making it more accessible.
Google Photos also features an invisible SynthID digital watermark and a visible one in the corner for videos, similar to Gemini. Users can leave feedback on generated media with a thumbs up or down, and the process of creating a Photo-to-video may take up to one minute.
Google will continue to add new tools and refine existing ones for the Create tab over time. The company's homepage, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are available for access. For more tech updates, you can add 9to5Google to your Google News feed.
