Glock Introduces Entry-Level .22 LR Pistol, the Glock 44
Glock has added a new model to its lineup, the Glock 44, a handgun chambered in .22 LR. Unveiled in early 2020, this pistol is designed as an entry-level or training option, offering an affordable and fun shooting experience.
The Glock 44 is a rimfire facsimile of its centerfire brethren, sharing the same controls, sights, and trigger as the Glock 19. It features a polymer slide reinforced with steel in critical areas, making it lighter than steel versions to function with .22 LR rounds. Weighing 14.6 ounces, it's significantly lighter than the Glock 19 at 23.6 ounces.
The Glock 44 is not threaded for a suppressor, unlike some other .22 pistols. It requires high-velocity or 40-grain ammo for reliable functioning, as standard-velocity 36-grain ammo may cause jams. Its magazines come with finger-friendly tabs for easy loading and a viewing slot to check remaining rounds.
In terms of accuracy, the Glock 44 is not as good as some other bull-barreled target guns, but it's still very accurate with its 4-inch 'Glock Marksman Barrel'. Its rear sight prints 3 inches higher than point-of-aim at 15 yards, requiring a six o'clock hold to hit the bullseye.
The Glock 44 serves its purpose as an inexpensive training pistol and is fun to shoot. Its lighter weight and familiar Glock controls make it a practical choice for those looking to improve their skills or introduce new shooters to the sport. Despite its limitations in accuracy compared to dedicated target guns, it's a solid option for its intended use.
