Giant tech companies from the United States promise an investment of $42 billion in the UK, with Trump making a visit to Britain.

The UK and America have announced a groundbreaking Tech Prosperity Deal, marking a significant milestone in transatlantic trade cooperation. This agreement, aimed at bolstering infrastructure and technology, will enable faster construction of new nuclear power stations in the UK.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed the deal, stating it will create highly skilled jobs and put more money in people's pockets. However, not everyone shares the same optimism. Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg criticised the deal, labelling it as making Britain a "vassal state" and relying on US companies to build on British soil.

One of the key players in this deal is Google, investing $6.83 billion in building datacenters over the next two years. Blackrock is also contributing, investing $683 million, with a fifth of that sum going to datacenters just to the west of London.

Microsoft is making a significant investment of $30 billion in the UK over the next three years. This funding will be used for data processing and AI bit barns. Nvidia, another tech giant, plans to invest $11 billion, with KI infrastructure partners like Coreweave, deploying up to 120,000 Blackwell processors. This investment is aimed at making the UK fit for AI usage, with major data centers being announced around the Trump visit, including Microsoft's centers in Fairwater and other locations in the UK.

The deal also involves collaboration on using AI in healthcare, space exploration, and nuclear fusion. Up to 60,000 Grace Blackwell Ultra GPUs are allocated specifically for the Stargate UK project. OpenAI and Nscale plan a UK center for the Stargate AI project in the economically-depressed northeast of England.

Moreover, the two nations will establish a joint taskforce to investigate quantum technology. However, there are no firm goals or investment plans stated at this time.

Ayesha Bhatti, head of digital policy for the UK and EU at the Center for Data Innovation, believes that leadership in technology among allies is not a zero-sum contest. This sentiment seems to be echoed by the collaborative nature of the Tech Prosperity Deal.

In the realm of nuclear research, the deal includes a statement of interest in nuclear fusion. However, it appears that this aspect of the agreement is still in its early stages.

Lastly, Salesforce is increasing its investment in the UK to $2 billion, an increase from its $4 billion five-year investment plan announced in 2023. Scale AI is also expanding its operations, spending $53 million on expansion in the UK, specifically to expand its European headquarters in London.

This Tech Prosperity Deal between America and the UK is expected to shape the future of technology and infrastructure in both countries, fostering a digital revolution that will benefit both economies for years to come.
