German Entrepreneurs Secure Christie's Pandoras Box in Acquisition Deal

Christie Digital Systems Germany has announced plans to sell its Pandoras Box media server technology to a group of experienced industry professionals. The purchasing group, led by Daniel Schäfer, founder of Coolux, Daniel Kaminski, a consultant, and Andre Maier, a long-time user of Pandoras Box technology, collectively boasts over 50 years of experience with the product.

The transaction involves a suite of pro AV software and hardware tools for show control, projection mapping, image compositing, and interactive applications. Christie acquired Coolux, the original developers of Pandoras Box, in 2015, but has now decided to sell the product line to allow for a streamlined focus on core strengths.

Schäfer and his team are eager to explore and expand the capabilities of Pandoras Box, aiming to provide the best real-time rendering engine and control system on the market for customers. The new owners also aim to continue growing the product, ensuring its continued success in the market.

The buyers are closely associated with the i-media group, a UK-based omnichannel media owner company known for its innovative advertising technology and strategic growth in digital and experiential media on UK roads. The group includes Nick Lawson, appointed as Chairman of i-media, formerly Global Chief Executive of EssenceMediacom, and Jonathan Lewis, CEO of i-media, who expressed excitement about the acquisition and the company’s rapid transformation leveraging data and technology.

No further details about the terms of the sale have been disclosed, but Michael Phipps, president and COO of Christie, is pleased with the strategic decision. Pandoras Box users worldwide will benefit from the ingenuity and expertise of Schäfer, Kaminski, and Maier in software and hardware design and operations.

With the new ownership, Pandoras Box is set to continue its journey as a leading player in the pro AV industry, promising exciting developments and enhancements for its customers.

The transaction includes the projection mapping, image compositing, and interactive applications technology of Pandoras Box media server. Schäfer and his team, with their extensive expertise, aim to further advance the technology, providing the best real-time rendering engine and control system available.
