Fuel Company AAA Cuts Gas Prices and Renames to Offer Lowest Electric Vehicle Charging Fees

Fuel provider AAA lowers gas prices significantly and rebrands under new identity, offering the lowest EV charging rates in the industry.

Electric Vehicles Offer Lower Fuel Costs Compared to Gasoline Vehicles, According to AAA

In a recent update to its platform, AAA has incorporated electric vehicle (EV) charging data, offering users a comprehensive view of the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) data, gasoline and EV charging price trends, and broader oil market dynamics. The addition aims to address the needs of nearly 2 million AAA members who own EVs.

According to AAA, the national average cost for a kWh at a public charging station is 34 cents. By comparison, the national average price of gasoline is about $3.15 to $3.16 per gallon. This means that charging an EV at home is generally less than half the cost of fueling a gasoline vehicle for equivalent mileage, making EV charging substantially cheaper on average.

The current national average cost to charge an electric vehicle (EV) at home is about 17.45 to 17.5 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) as of mid-2025. Charging an EV for about 1,000 miles typically costs around $50 to $60 per month at this rate. In contrast, driving 1,000 miles in a gas vehicle averaging around 24 to 30 miles per gallon costs roughly $110 to $130 per month.

Public or fast-charging stations, especially DC fast chargers, tend to be more expensive, sometimes exceeding $0.50 per kWh. For example, charging at public DC fast chargers may cost around $169 for 1,000 miles of travel compared to about $59 at home. Regional electricity rates also vary widely by state, affecting overall charging costs.

Andrew Gross, a spokesperson for AAA, stated that EV charging rates remain steadier compared to gas prices. The new feature tracks the average cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for public charging at all levels, but does not offer pricing data for DC fast-charging stations, workplace charging stations, or private charging stations. The EV charging map does not provide real-time pricing data for individual charging stations either.

The EV charging map highlights the availability of public charging stations in each state, offering national and state averages only, not detailed information at the county or metropolitan levels. As of today, 28 states now report average gas prices under $3 per gallon.

AAA invites users to visit its updated platform at gasprices.aaa.com to explore these trends and more.

| Aspect | Average Cost Mid-2025 | |-----------------------------|------------------------------------------| | EV charging (home) per kWh | ~17.45 to 17.5 cents/kWh | | Monthly EV charging (1,000 mi) | Approx. $50–$60 | | Gas price per gallon | ~$3.15–$3.16 | | Monthly gas fueling (1,000 mi) | Approx. $110–$130 |

Technology continues to play a significant role in the finance sector, as illustrated by AAA's recent update to its platform, incorporating electric vehicle (EV) charging data and trends. The new feature also compares the average cost of EV charging at home to the national average price of gasoline.

In the realm of sports, the lower fuel costs associated with EVs could potentially influence decisions about transportation for sports teams and events, offering cost-efficiency and environmental benefits.
