A recent survey by BVA Xsight for the AD garage network reveals that 50% of French drivers have postponed car repairs due to financial constraints. Here are some budget-friendly solutions for keeping your vehicle running smoothly.

Navigating between mechanics and budget limitations often results in economic driving. The dilemma is real—going to the workshop for car maintenance is necessary, yet it becomes a luxury when the budget can no longer keep up. The survey results shed light on this dilemma, with 50% of drivers admitting to delaying recommended repairs due to their high prices.
However, despite financial struggles, drivers don't completely overlook maintenance. More than half of those surveyed claim to have annual servicing, while a third go every two years. In contrast, 15% forgo recommendations due to the jaw-dropping expense of bills.
Curious about what parts of a vehicle incur the highest repair costs? The survey findings show that, on average, a complete service costs between 250 and 450 euros. Approximately 47% of respondents are willing to shell out 150 euros or more for such routine services. A decision that can be seen as willingly sacrificing, as it helps avoid more severe breakdowns and heavy repairs that could potentially render the car economically unviable. The survey highlights that 65% of respondents would be inclined to get rid of their car if the repair cost surpassed its value, emphasizing the urgent need for cost-effective solutions so that car maintenance is no longer a luxury. Buying a new vehicle remains a distant dream for most, with only 17% considering it an option, preferring instead to maintain their existing vehicles or opt for used cars (21%).
In response to financial challenges, the annual technical inspection for old cars poses a potential obstacle for drivers struggling to afford it. Rest assured, the French aren't ignoring their vehicles out of negligence; rather, they're prioritizing making the existing last while minimizing expenses, all the while staying attentive to safety. To strike a balance, 69% of respondents are open to employing used parts for repairs, primarily for bodywork or external components. Additionally, the internet plays a crucial role in cutting costs: 64% of drivers consult online reviews before choosing a garage, prioritizing reputation (66%) and proximity (60%).
