Ford Cuts F-150 Lightning Production, Creates New Jobs
Ford is adjusting its production plans for the F-150 Lightning and other models. The company is reducing Lightning production and offering support to impacted employees, while also creating new jobs in other areas.
Ford initially aimed to produce 70,000 F-150 Lightning pickups in 2023. However, news in 2022 fell short of this target, with only 24,165 units sold. To balance production, sales growth, and profitability, Ford is now cutting Lightning production to a single shift starting April 1, 2023.
This change affects around 1,400 employees at Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. To support these employees, Ford is offering roles at nearby facilities or the Special Retirement Incentive Program. Meanwhile, Ford is increasing production of the Bronco, Bronco Raptor, Ranger, and Ranger Raptor to create roughly 900 new jobs. The start of production for these models at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant is scheduled for early 2025.
Ford's production adjustments aim to better align supply with news for the F-150 Lightning and other models. The company is committed to supporting impacted employees and creating new job opportunities.
