Flutterwave's mobile app, initially launched, is now re-introduced in the US market, offering extended services including sending money to Africa.
In a significant move aimed at fostering economic development across Africa and supporting families on the continent, Flutterwave, an Africa-based payments technology company, relaunched its Send App in the United States in July 2025. This relaunch follows Flutterwave acquiring 20 additional Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs), raising their total direct licenses to 34, enabling operations in many US states and territories without intermediaries.
With this expansion, users in the following US states and territories can now send money to Africa through the Send App: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia (DC), Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The relaunch brought several improvements, including a streamlined onboarding process with quicker ID verification, optimized payment support for US-issued Visa and Discover cards, enhanced security and compliance measures, and improved app flows for easier sending.
Olugbenga "GB" Agboola, Flutterwave Founder and CEO, stated that the expansion of Send App's reach and enhanced services empowers millions of Africans in the US to maintain strong financial ties with their home countries.
In addition to the expanded remittance corridors from 34 US states and territories to key African countries (Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt), the Send App now maintains compliance with enhanced security measures for safeguarding transactions. It also offers seamless FX transactions through integration with Swap.
Flutterwave's Send App relaunch aims to simplify global payments for African diaspora communities, contributing to economic development across Africa and supporting families on the continent. This expansion marks a significant step forward in Flutterwave's mission to democratize finance across Africa and the world.
