FBI Arrests Pompompurin, Alleged BreachForums Mastermind
The FBI has arrested Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, also known as Pompompurin, for allegedly operating BreachForums, a notorious dark web hacking site. The arrest follows a 2021 data breach that compromised the FBI's Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP).
Fitzpatrick, under the alias Pompompurin, claimed responsibility for the LEEP breach. The website, BreachForums, hosted around 1,000 stolen databases and was used to sell personal details of 170,000 people, including US House of Representative members and their families.
After Fitzpatrick's arrest, BreachForums appointed a new administrator, Baphomet, to keep the site running. Fitzpatrick was released on a USD300,000 bond and is due to reappear in court on March 24. He faces one count of conspiracy to sell unauthorized access devices. Bail conditions bar him from contacting other BreachForum users.
Pompompurin is also suspected of involvement in other high-profile breaches, such as RobinHood and Twitter.
The arrest of Pompompurin has disrupted BreachForums' operations, but the site continues under new administration. The investigation into the alleged data breaches continues, with potential consequences for those affected and involved.
