New Nauticam Underwater Housing for Nikon D850 Debuts

Nauticam has unveiled a new underwater housing for the Nikon D850, a popular choice among photographers for its full-frame capabilities and high-quality image production. The housing is designed to work seamlessly with the camera's F-mount lenses, offering a wide range of compatibility and optimal performance underwater.

Optimised Port System

The Nauticam Nikon D850 underwater housing utilises the N120 port system, compatible with a wide selection of lenses and ports. Nauticam's extensive range of ports supports Nikon F-mount lenses, such as the N120 macro and wide-angle ports designed for F-mount optics.

For macro photography, the housing is compatible with flat ports sized for 60mm and 105mm Nikon macro lenses, like the 105mm f/2.8 VR micro lens. For wide-angle shots, dome ports that fit Nikon 8-15mm fisheye or 14-24mm wide lenses are recommended.

Enhanced Optics

To further enhance underwater optics, Nauticam offers additional wet optics like the WWL-C wide-angle lens or macro wet lenses such as the SMC-3 or CMC-2. For the most accurate and updated lens and port compatibility, consulting Nauticam’s official N120 port chart for the D850 and authorised dealers is advised.

Versatile Port Options

The recommended port options for the Nikon 8-15mm 3.5-4.5G Fisheye lens are a 140mm Glass Dome Port with Removeable Shade and a 230mm Glass Dome Port. For the Nikon 16-35mm f4.0 VR lens, the most popular and versatile choice is the Nauticam 230mm Glass Dome Port.

For macro lenses like the Nikon 105mm f2.8G VR Macro and Nikon 60mm f2.8G Macro, the Nauticam Macro Port 87, Nauticam Macro Port 60, and Nauticam 30mm Extension Ring are recommended.

Features and Design

The Nauticam D850 housing features a patented Nauticam bayonet port lock mechanism and an electro-optical converter, allowing the use of fiber optic cables with cameras that lack a popup flash and eliminating the need for an extra flash trigger. The housing provides access to all important camera functions, including a new lever to easily toggle between AF modes.

However, users should note that the ISO button has been moved over by the trigger, which may require users to take their finger off the trigger to change the ISO.

Alternative Options

For a cheaper and lighter alternative, the Nauticam 8" Acrylic Dome Port is available for the Nikon 16mm 2.8 Fisheye lens and the Nikon 16-35mm f4.0 VR lens. While it is a more affordable option, it is not as good optically as glass and scratches easier.

The Nauticam 250mm dome is available as an option for shooting with rectilinear wides, but it is not used much due to its size.

Overall, the Nauticam Nikon D850 underwater housing offers a versatile and high-performance solution for photographers seeking to capture stunning underwater images with their Nikon D850 camera.
