Expands Senior Management at Casper
Casper Expands Leadership Team with Seasoned Retail and Technology Professionals
Casper, the digitally native mattress brand that has disrupted the industry, has announced several key appointments to its leadership team. The new hires, which include Emilie Arel as president and chief commercial officer, Ben Clark as chief technology officer, and two independent board members, Jack Lazar and Diane Irvine, are aimed at driving the brand's growth and expansion.
Emilie Arel brings more than 20 years of experience in retail, merchandising, customer experience, and marketing to her new role at Casper. Prior to joining the company, she served as the CEO of FullBeauty Brands and the CEO of Quidsi (an Amazon company that shut down in 2017). Arel has also been active in the retail apparel and fashion industry during her various roles at Gap, Inc.
Ben Clark, the new chief technology officer, will oversee the advancement of digital products and the enhancement of systems at Casper. Clark joins Casper from Wayfair, where he served as chief architect. His expertise in technology and digital products will be instrumental in Casper's omnichannel growth.
Philip Krim, the CEO and co-founder of Casper, stated that adding experienced leaders is critical to keep up with global demand across the growing business of sleep. Krim believes that the new hires bring invaluable experience to Casper as they continue to scale and bring better sleep to more people across the globe.
Jack Lazar, another new board member, has served as CFO of multiple public companies and currently serves on ThredUp’s and Tile’s boards, among others. Diane Irvine, the other new board member, has over a decade of director-level experience and is the current chairperson of Yelp.
The recent hires and the addition of two independent board members may indicate that Casper is readying an initial public offering. The company has also raised an additional $100 million, pushing its post-money valuation to $1.1 billion.
Casper plans to use the funding to fuel its category leadership and omnichannel growth, including wholesale and e-commerce channels. The brand has quickly expanded its brick-and-mortar footprint since its inception five years ago, and it plans to open 200 stores across North America.
Jack Lazar has served as CFO of companies such as GoPro, while Emilie Arel has held various roles at Gap, Inc. Before taking on the CEO role at FullBeauty Brands, Arel was the CEO of Quidsi, an Amazon company that shut down in 2017. Diane Irvine was formerly the CEO and CFO of diamond and jewelry company Blue Nile.
In conclusion, Casper's latest appointments and funding round are a testament to the brand's commitment to growth and innovation in the sleep industry. With its experienced leadership team and strategic plans for expansion, Casper is poised to bring better sleep to more people around the world.
