Expanding the Sealion 6's reach, BYD introduces a new long-range plug-in hybrid variant
New BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range Offers Enhanced Electric-Only Driving Capability
BYD has unveiled the latest addition to its new energy vehicle lineup, the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range plug-in hybrid SUV. This new variant promises more range and lower running costs, further solidifying BYD's position as a leader in new energy vehicle technology.
The key upgrade for the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range is a 26.6kWh BYD Blade Battery, a 45% increase over the Standard Range's 18.3kWh pack. This larger battery pairs with BYD's DM-i (Dual Mode - Intelligent) hybrid system, delivering a total driving range of around 1092km (WLTP). The electric-only driving range is up to 140 km (NEDC), a significant improvement over previous versions.
In terms of efficiency, the Dynamic Extended Range model achieves fuel consumption as low as 0.8 L/100 km when using the battery from 100% down to around 20%. After the battery state drops below about 25%, fuel consumption rises to around 4.8 L/100 km. The vehicle produces 160 kW of power and 300 Nm of torque from the combined 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor.
Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes about 3.9 seconds for this variant, demonstrating strong performance alongside its efficiency. The Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range is priced from $46,990 plus on-road costs, making it competitively priced in the plug-in hybrid SUV market.
The new model retains the sleek European-inspired styling of the Sealion 6 range and offers a black interior as a cosmetic upgrade. Buyers can choose from four exterior colors: Arctic White, Stone Grey, Harbour Grey, and Cosmos Black. The SEALION 6 PREMIUM STANDARD RANGE is priced at $52,990, and the SEALION 6 DYNAMIC STANDARD RANGE is priced at $45,990, with the SEALION 6 ESSENTIAL priced at $42,990. All optional paint colors for the Sealion 6 models cost an additional $900.
Stephen Collins, Chief Operating Officer at BYD Automotive Australia, stated that the new variant offers more flexibility and more value. The Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range is BYD's latest effort to gain more market share for the hybrid-curious in Australia, as competition in the plug-in hybrid segment intensifies.
With the average Australian driving about 30km daily, most owners could use the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range as a full-time EV, recharging at home and rarely visiting a petrol station. The launch of the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range marks an exciting development in the plug-in hybrid market, offering a substantial boost in electric driving capability and overall efficiency.
