Polestar, the Swedish-based electric vehicle manufacturer, is making significant strides in the Australian market, with a robust expansion of its retail network. The ACT (Australian Capital Territory) has been identified as a market with significant potential for Polestar due to strong government support for electric vehicles and a robust public charge network.

The expansion of Polestar's retail network is in line with the local launch of the Polestar 3 electric SUV and the Polestar 4 electric SUV coupé. In August 2025, Polestar opened its first retail test drive and handover centre in Canberra, marking an important step in its expansion efforts in Australia. This expansion aligns with the brand's growing presence and increasing EV sales in the country.

This Canberra location is part of a broader plan to grow Polestar’s accessibility and retail footprint in Australia, driven by rising consumer demand for EVs like Polestar 2, 3, and 4. Polestar plans to introduce new models to the Australian market, including the forthcoming Polestar 5 Grand Tourer in 2025 and other models in the pipeline such as Polestar 6 and Polestar 7, which may also lead to further expansion of retail and service infrastructure as these models launch.

Polestar aims to increase the number of retail spaces significantly, with a global increase of about 75% by the end of 2026. This expansion is part of a global shift to an active seller model for Polestar. Currently, there are 12 Polestar Spaces around Australia, with recent additions in Canberra and Launceston. An expanded network of 19 Polestar Service Points has been rolled out across Australia to manage maintenance and accessories.

Scott Maynard, managing director of Polestar Australia, stated that the company intends to maintain its momentum in Australia for the second half of 2025. With the continued growth of the electric vehicle market in Australia and Polestar's commitment to expanding its retail network, consumers can expect to see more Polestar Spaces popping up around the country in the coming years.

The expansion of Polestar's retail network is not only limited to electric SUVs, as the brand is planning to introduce new models such as the Polestar 5 Grand Tourer in 2025 and others like Polestar 6 and 7. This global increase of retail spaces by about 75% aligns with Polestar's shift towards an active seller model, with the intention to maintain momentum and increase consumer accessibility in the finance, transportation, and automotive technology industries, particularly in the growing Australian market.
