Get ready for a game-changer, folks! The legendary General Martin Herem, former commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, is joining forces with Milrem Robotics in August as a military strategy advisor.

According to the buzz, Herem's role is to streamline the gap between end-user requirements and product development. He'll be spearheading the process of analyzing lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and transforming them into future use cases for land robotics. On top of that, Herem will be lending his expertise to Milrem's management, business development, and capability development teams, offering insights from a military user's perspective.

Kuldar Väärsi, the CEO of Milrem, had this to say, "We're rolling out ground robotic systems on a larger scale in various countries, so it's crucial that these new capabilities complement and enhance existing defence capabilities." He further added, "With his extensive knowledge in building deployable military capabilities effectively and smartly, General Herem will help Milrem deliver even better and more tailored system-level solutions based on ground robotics."

The war in Ukraine and the deployment of Milrem Robotics' THeMIS and other ground robots have showcased the significance of these systems and the growing need to further develop them to fulfill their mission - preserving our soldiers' safety. As stated by Herem, "My aim is to ensure that the hard-earned knowledge from the Ukrainian battleground is integrated into future robotic systems."

A decorated veteran, General Herem served as the commander of the Estonian Defence Forces from December 2018 till June 2024. He joined the service in 1992 and held key positions such as Commandant of the Estonian National Defence College (2013-2016) and Chief of Staff of the Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces (2016-2018). Younger generations may recognize him as one of the re-founding members of the paramilitary Estonian Defence League in 1990.

Milrem, an Estonian innovation in robotics and autonomous systems, branches out across Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, and the US. Renowned for their THeMIS and Multiscope UGVs, the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle, and MIFIK intelligent autonomous functionalities for defense platforms, Milrem is making a mark in the world of defense technologies.
