Deutsche Telekom, Germany's leading mobile network provider, is set to significantly enhance mobile network coverage in Vorpommern-Greifswald county over the next three years. According to Georg von Wagner, the spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom, this expansion will focus on improving both mobile broadband and rural connectivity, aiming to provide better 4G and 5G coverage.
The company plans to invest in the construction of approximately 50 new mobile communication sites, with 17 of these being added in the county over the next three years. This move is part of Deutsche Telekom's commitment to improving network quality and capacity, particularly in underserved and rural areas, to support digital infrastructure development and meet the increasing demand for reliable mobile services in the region.
Deutsche Telekom's investment in Vorpommern-Greifswald county follows a trend of increasing bandwidth demand, with the company reporting an annual increase of around 30%. The mobile internet coverage in the county currently stands at 94%, while household coverage with fast mobile networks is at 99%.
Deutsche Funkturm, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, is responsible for building the mobile sites. A new antenna site has recently been put into operation in Blesewitz, and there are now 160 sites in Vorpommern-Greifswald county.
The mobile sites in the county support the advanced mobile location (AML) emergency call technology and the cell broadcast warning system, ensuring that emergency calls and warnings are possible at all sites.
