Embraer Jets receive Starlink upgrade in latest after-sales enhancement, enabling better connectivity for aircraft users.
Embraer Business Jets to Offer Starlink Satellite Internet
Embraer, the third largest producer of civil aircraft, is now offering Starlink satellite internet as an aftermarket connectivity solution for its business jets: Praetor 600, Praetor 500, Legacy 500, and Legacy 450. The high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi solution is provided through a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) developed in partnership with Nextant Aerospace (Flexjet's engineering division).
Certification Status
FAA certification has already been obtained for the Praetor 500 and Legacy 450. FAA certification for the Praetor 600 and Legacy 500 is expected in Q3 2025. Following FAA, Brazilian ANAC certification is anticipated in Q4 2025, while EASA (European) certification is targeted for Q1 2026.
Service Capabilities
Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency internet via a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, with latencies below 99 milliseconds. This supports demanding internet applications onboard such as 4K video calls, online gaming, VPN access, and other real-time uses globally, including over oceans and remote areas.
Strengthening Connected Flight Experiences
The addition of Starlink's internet system strengthens Embraer's commitment to providing seamless, connected flight experiences worldwide. This move follows JSX's decision to outfit its entire fleet of 40 Embraer regional jets with Starlink back in 2023, and United Airlines receiving approval to install Starlink Wi-Fi on its Embraer 175 regional aircraft earlier this year.
Operators of Praetor and Legacy jets can now equip their aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi directly through the manufacturer, ensuring seamless integration and support. The Praetor, one of the most technologically advanced business jets in its category, now offers Starlink Wi-Fi, ensuring a seamless connectivity experience for passengers.
Jay Heublein, President of Technical Services at Flexjet, stated that Starlink has firmly established itself as the preeminent solution for in-flight connectivity, with over a year of operational experience and hundreds of kits sold to the business aviation fleet. Marsha Woelber, VP of Customer Support and Aftermarket Sales for Executive Jets at Embraer, expressed excitement about bringing Starlink's high-speed internet to customers.
It's important to note that Starlink encountered issues on United Express E175 jets, leading to a temporary suspension of the deployment. However, these issues are not mentioned in relation to the Praetor or Legacy jets. The certification status and service capabilities discussed herein are accurate as of August 2025. EASA approval for the Starlink system on Embraer's business jets is expected in early 2026.
- The high-speed internet solution provided by Starlink via a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, now offered by Embraer for its business jets, showcases the integration of advanced science, technology, and space-and-astronomy to enhance flight experiences, supporting demanding internet applications like 4K video calls and online gaming.
- With FAA certification for Starlink internet on Praetor 500 and Legacy 450 already obtained, and expected for Praetor 600 and Legacy 500 in Q3 2025, Embraer is demonstrating its commitment to providing cutting-edge technological solutions in the aviation industry, eventually offering Starlink's high-speed internet globally.
