Embraer jets receive Starlink upgrade for post-sales improvement
Embraer Partners with SpaceX to Bring Starlink Satellite Internet to Business Jets
Embraer, a leading manufacturer of business jets, has announced a partnership with SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite internet to its fleet of aircraft. This move aims to provide passengers with a seamless connectivity experience, strengthening Embraer's commitment to connected flight experiences worldwide.
Starlink, SpaceX's constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, offers high-speed internet services even in remote areas or over oceans. With over a year of operational experience and hundreds of kits sold to the business aviation fleet, Starlink is considered the preeminent solution for in-flight connectivity.
United Airlines received approval to install Starlink Wi-Fi on its Embraer 175 regional aircraft earlier this year. Similarly, the Praetor, one of the most technologically advanced business jets in its category, now offers Starlink Wi-Fi as an option. Operators of Praetor and Legacy jets can now equip their aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi directly through the manufacturer, ensuring seamless integration and support.
The Praetor 500 and Legacy 450 have already received FAA approval for Starlink installation, with the Praetor 600 and Legacy 500 expected to follow suit in the third quarter of 2025. Brazil's ANAC is targeting Starlink certification for the Praetor 600 and Legacy 500 in Q4, while EASA approval is expected in early 2026.
The high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi solution is provided through a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) developed in partnership with Nextant Aerospace and Flexjet. Marsha Woelber, VP of Customer Support and Aftermarket Sales for Executive Jets at Embraer, expressed excitement about bringing Starlink's high-speed internet to customers.
JSX, a shared jet service, outfitted its entire fleet of 40 Embraer regional jets with Starlink in 2023. However, Starlink encountered issues on United Express E175 jets, leading to a temporary suspension of deployment. Despite this setback, the partnership between Embraer and SpaceX continues to move forward, bringing the promise of reliable, high-speed internet to business jet passengers.
