Tesla CEO Elon Musk Steps Down from U.S. Government Role

Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, has officially ended his tenure in the U.S. government. Musk, who served as a "special government employee," is relinquishing his position in President Donald Trump's administration following the conclusion of his 130-day mandate. This mandate was centered on implementing significant cost and personnel cuts within the federal government.

Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity to tackle wasteful spending in the federal government. In a statement on social media platform X, he articulated the importance of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), which he led during his tenure, in shaping the government as a "way of life."

Notably, Musk's departure comes amid revenue declines and losses reported by Tesla in April, with worldwide sales of the electric car manufacturer falling by 13 percent in the first quarter. As a result, Musk decided to dedicate more focus to Tesla and scaled back his role at the government department.

Musk's term in the U.S. government was marked by controversy, particularly with the layoff of thousands of federal workers as part of the cost-cutting measures during his tenure.

Meanwhile, Musk has faced criticism in Europe, particularly Germany, for his support of far-right political forces. During the Bundestag election campaign, he backed the far-right AfD party.

Since returning to the White House in January, Musk served as the driving force behind the so-called government department for government efficiency (Doge). This department aimed to streamline government operations and reduce wasteful spending.
