Electric Camping Trailer AE.1: Engineered for Authentic Expeditions, Powered by Electricity
The Lightship AE.1, now in production at their Colorado facility, is set to redefine the travel trailer experience. This innovative electric travel trailer offers a unique blend of silent power, towing efficiency, off-grid capability, and interior design tailored for outdoor enthusiasts.
Silent Power and Towing Efficiency
At the heart of the AE.1 is Lightship’s proprietary TrekDrive™ system. This system integrates an onboard battery and electric motor that assist towing, actively managing acceleration, braking, and cornering with real-time sensor input to optimize power delivery. This results in reduced strain on the tow vehicle, quieter operation, and improved overall efficiency, potentially doubling the towing range of an electric vehicle.
Off-Grid Capability
The AE.1's Atmos trim, for instance, includes a sizeable 77 kWh battery paired with 1.8 kW of integrated solar panels on the roof. This setup enables extended off-grid stays, with the system supporting regenerative power during downhill driving, further extending range.
Interior Design for Outdoor Use
The interior design of the AE.1 emphasizes a light-filled, airy space with panoramic windows (10 in the Atmos), skylights (5), and numerous opening windows (4) with integrated bug screens to enhance ventilation and connection to nature. The fully equipped kitchen contains high-end appliances, including a stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. The bathroom occupies a full-width rear slot for comfort and convenience. The living space includes a flexible Switchback Lounge that converts to sleeping, seating up to four people, with options like a motorized awning to extend outdoor living space. Climate control via AirRight ensures comfort in various conditions.
Additional Features
Standard equipment on premium trims includes powered stabilizers, auto-levelers, an advanced LookOut camera system for safety and visibility, and an AeroHub chassis design that contributes to aerodynamic efficiency. The trailer’s telescoping, aerodynamic shape reduces drag to preserve tow vehicle efficiency, setting it apart from traditional boxy trailers.
Power Management and Integration
The AE.1's power management system automatically balances energy consumption and generation, prioritizing essential systems when battery levels drop. The trailer integrates seamlessly with electric, hybrid, and traditional gas vehicles, and can be charged at Tesla Supercharger networks. The battery capacity provides enough power to run a full kitchen setup, climate control, and all electronic devices.
The Future of Camping
The Lightship AE.1 electric travel trailer represents a significant leap forward in the camping industry. With its focus on silent, efficient, and off-grid travel, coupled with a spacious, nature-friendly design, the AE.1 is poised to revolutionize the way people explore the great outdoors. Currently, the Colorado production facility is manufacturing Cosmos Edition units, with customer deliveries starting before summer ends.
