Electric Cafe Racer Maeving's RM1S, Boasts Carbon Body and Eschews Futuristic Appeal
Introducing the Maeving RM1S Blackout, a limited-edition electric motorcycle that seamlessly blends classic style with modern technology. This British creation, born in Coventry and masterminded by university friends William Stirrup and Seb Inglis-Jones, continues Maeving's pursuit of premium electric motorcycles that exude the spirit of true motorcycling, rather than the feeling of oversized scooters.
The RM1S Blackout is an edgier adaptation of the standard RM1S, boasting a darker, more intimidating appearance compared to its sunnier counterpart. Textured black battery housing, matte carbon fiber mudguards, and stealthier features give the Blackout a serious, menacing appeal.
Designed primarily for urban environments and secondary roads, the Blackout maximum speed of 70 mph and range of up to 80 miles or 90 miles in Eco mode cater well to the needs of most riders who typically spend significant time navigating city roads.
The 15 horsepower brushless hub motor may seem modest, but it delivers a substantial 193 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheel, providing impressive acceleration from a standstill. Three riding modes (Eco, Ride, and Sport) allow riders to balance range and performance according to their requirements.
Perhaps the most innovative feature of the RM1S Blackout is its approach to charging. The bike utilizes two removable 2.73 kWh LG battery packs, which can be removed and charged from any standard wall outlet. Ideal for apartment dwellers without garages or outdoor power, this charging solution simplifies the often-stressful aspect of electric vehicle ownership in urban areas.
The Blackout's appearance perfectly encapsulates the essence of timeless design. Round LED headlight, analog speedometer with LCD information display, diamond-stitched bobber seat, and bar-end mirrors, all contribute to an aesthetic that will not soon go out of style. The redesigned "tank" serves as a 10-liter lockable storage compartment, complete with a USB-C port for charging devices en route.
Maeving will produce only 100 units of the RM1S Blackout, available for £8,995 (approximately $11,495) with deliveries scheduled for late July or early August. Direct-to-consumer sales include at-home delivery and mobile servicing for convenience.
