Egyptian AI Startup Widebot Raises $3M for Arabic Language AI Model
Egyptian AI startup Widebot, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has secured US$3 million in pre-Series A funding. The round was co-led by Enza Capital and Keheilan Asset Management II, with other investors also participating. The funds will support the development of 'AQL Mind', a generative AI model for the Arabic language.
Widebot was originally founded in Cairo by Mohamed Farkous and Hazem Bayomy. Their mission is to create accurate, secure, and personalized AI experiences for Saudi government entities and businesses through AQL Mind. This model aims to understand a wide range of Arabic dialects and accents, a significant challenge in a language with diverse regional variations.
The CEO of Keheilan Asset Management, Dr Ahmed Abdelhamid, believes supporting deep technology companies like Widebot is vital for regional economic development. He sees the potential in AI technologies to drive growth and innovation in the region.
Widebot's successful funding round demonstrates the growing interest in AI technologies and the potential of Arabic language processing. With AQL Mind, the startup aims to deliver advanced AI solutions tailored to the Saudi market, contributing to the region's technological advancements.
