Drivers Face Safety Concerns as Modern Car Assistance Systems Malfunction
A significant number of drivers are experiencing malfunctions with assistance systems in modern cars, according to a recent survey. Almost all car brands, including Tesla which is currently under investigation, are affected. This has raised concerns about safety and reliability, with some drivers feeling impaired by these systems.
Four out of ten drivers occasionally or frequently encounter issues with assistance systems. These malfunctions can lead to serious accidents, such as rear-end or side collisions. Lane keep assist is a particular concern, often causing frustration due to misinterpretation of lane markings, especially in construction situations. Phantom braking, triggered by faulty sensors or unclear traffic situations, is another common problem. The German Automobile Club (ADAC) has not specified any particular brands with frequent automatic braking system malfunctions.
The ongoing development of these systems puts pressure on manufacturers to improve safety and reliability. However, drivers are advised not to rely blindly on assistance systems and to remain fully responsible for their vehicle's operation.
