Dresden to Become Global AI Hub with 'Elbjuwel' Supercomputer
Dresden is set to become a global AI hub with the construction of 'Elbjuwel', one of the world's most powerful AI supercomputers. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf and Munich-based ParTec AG, led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Beisel, are collaborating on this ambitious project. The supercomputer aims to boost AI access for industry, SMEs, and scientific institutions, while also attracting MINT talent to Saxony.
The 'Elbjuwel' supercomputer will focus on AI, machine learning, high-performance computing, and quantum computing. It is expected to provide computing power for local calculations and simulations in Dresden and its surrounding areas. The partners aim to create a platform for industry and research using 'Elbjuwel'.
Initiatives like ProKI Dresden, which supports SMEs in integrating AI into production using AI demonstrators like LOTTA, are expected to benefit significantly from this new platform. The supercomputer's development is a joint effort between the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf and ParTec AG, with Prof. Dr. Thomas Beisel at the helm of the Munich-based IT company.
The 'Elbjuwel' supercomputer, set to be one of the strongest in the world, is expected to strengthen Saxony's role as a leading AI location. It will facilitate access to AI for industry, SMEs, and scientific institutions, while also attracting researchers and talents from the MINT sector. The project is a testament to the region's commitment to technological advancement and innovation.
