Discontinuing Vaping Leads to Demise of Tamagotchi Character
In the bustling heart of New York City, the annual NYU Stupid Hackathon took place, a gathering for software engineers, hackers, and makers. This year, the event was home to a remarkable creation that stole the show - the "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi.
The brainchild of former Meta employee Rebecca Xun and fellow engineer Lucia Camacho from Anduril, the "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi was initially designed as a digital pet to help Xun quit vaping. However, the experience of creating this unique device took an unexpected turn.
During extensive testing, Xun and Camacho found themselves affected by vaping, a side effect that added a layer of reality to the digital pet. Despite the challenges, the "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi became the breakout star of the hackathon.
The device, resembling a brick of C4 with a crying cartoon on it, uses a pink Elf Bar BC5000 vape. In its original form, it was connected to a computer, but the current version is self-contained. A notable feature is the wires running from the screen to some basic components on the back of the Elf Bar.
The "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi requires continuous vaping to prevent it from appearing on the screen and crying with tears. This peculiar interactive feature has led some to speculate that a cursed vape exists in NYC, containing a Tamagotchi's soul. However, no verified or detailed information can be provided about such a project.
The NYU Stupid Hackathon, organised by the Interactive Telecommunications Program at the Tisch School of the Arts, saw various other creations. One of these was a table that never stops shaking, while another was a printer that drafts legally binding documents to track pink promises.
Despite its unusual origins, the "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi was the most notable creation at the hackathon. However, Xun decided to use the power of this device for evil instead of quitting vaping. The exact nature of these evil purposes remains unknown, but the "Vape or Die" Tamagotchi continues to intrigue and captivate those who encounter it.
