In the heart of Istanbul, the tech and aviation event Teknofest is underway, attracting visitors from all corners of the globe. Organized by the Industry and Technology Ministry and the Turkish Technology Team Foundation, this year's festival opened on September 17 and will run until the 21st.

One of the main attractions at Teknofest is the defense giant Aselsan, demonstrating its Steel Dome air defense project management. The Steel Dome system, developed in collaboration with companies like Rocketsan, integrates a variety of key components to provide comprehensive protection against a range of threats.

At the core of the Steel Dome project are the Korkut anti-aircraft gun for low-altitude threats and the Hisar systems for low and medium-altitude protection against aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and helicopters. The system also includes locally developed command and control centers, radars, electro-optical sensors, and communication modules.

The Steel Dome project, launched in August 2024, began field deployment this year. It showcases the integration of domestically produced weapon systems, radars, electro-optical products, communication modules, and command stations.

In addition to the Steel Dome project, Aselsan is also presenting the Ejderha system. This innovative technology uses high-power electromagnetic waves to neutralize swarming and kamikaze drones, providing an extra layer of protection.

Visitors to Teknofest can explore the Steel Dome project in a dedicated 'experience area.' Here, they can understand how the system works through imaging technologies, with animations demonstrating how the components protect against various threats.

Teknofest is more than just a festival; it's a platform for technology competitions, spectacular events, and educational workshops. This year, the festival features 58 main events and 137 subcategories, ensuring there's something for everyone.

Since its inception in 2018, Teknofest has attracted about 11 million visitors. Last year's festival in Adana attracted 1.1 million visitors alone. The event rotates between Turkish cities and abroad, fostering a spirit of innovation and collaboration.

Teknofest is supported by dozens of government bodies, private sector partners, and universities. It's a testament to Turkey's commitment to technological advancement and its dedication to nurturing a culture of innovation.

As the Steel Dome air defense system takes centre stage at Teknofest, it's a reminder of Turkey's growing capabilities in the field of defense technology. The festival serves as a showcase for the country's technological prowess, inspiring visitors and fostering a sense of national pride.
