Delve into the details of Meta's Latest Self-Contained AI Application
Piece De resistance:
Welcome to the thrill of the Meta AI app, now available on your iOS, Android, and desktop devices, fueled by the open-source Llama 4 model.
This new kid on the block offers a tantalizing blend of features that'll leave you in awe. Generate high-definition images, switch between celebrity voices, connect with Meta smart glasses, and explore the AI-generated wonders of fellow users in the Discovery tab. Dive into the digital cosmos! 🌌
Meta finally stepped into the limelight by launching its standalone Meta AI assistant on April 29, 2025. The app is yet another step to bring Meta's advanced AI tools to the masses, beyond just Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. 💻
The Meta AI app holds the promise of outshining rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Elon Musk's xAI, all of whom have already launched standalone AI apps. With a staggering 7.5 billion monthly active users on its social media platforms, Meta has the potential to catch up with its formidable competition, but will it be able to match ChatGPT's prolific 600 million monthly active users? 🔥
Meta began its deep dive into AI integration back in December 2023, introducing generative AI into its social media and communication platforms. 🤖
Time for a Spin with Meta AI!
I got my hands on the Meta AI app for an exclusive demo. Here's what got me buzzing:
A Tour of the New App.....................
I accessed the Meta AI app through my iPhone and signed in using either my Facebook, Instagram account, or an email linked to my other Meta services. A brief tutorial to get me started outlined using the app's features and launching simple projects. 📱
The Discovery tab takes center stage, showcasing AI creations by other users. This goes beyond a simple gallery and doubles as a social media network, allowing users to like, comment, and share AI-generated content across Meta platforms. 💬
While the sharing of images is a convenient aspect of the app, the lack of user permission before sharing is a bit of a dark catch-22. The feature can be switched off in the Settings under Data & Privacy; however, it's enabled by default. 😮
The image and video creation prowess of Meta AI is a standout feature, offering bright, high-definition images in seconds. The app's Emu image generator delivers vibrant, animatable images with nary a hitch. It can even generate stunning depictions of DC universe characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and John Constantine! 🦸♂️ 📷
The app's controls also boast a history tab displaying previous prompts. Users can choose to make their prompts private or delete them in the "Manage your information" section within the Data & Privacy settings. 🔒
Integrating with Meta's glasses is another stunning feature for current Meta Glasses owners. The app offers step-by-step instructions for pairing the devices. 🕶️
"This is just the start of a long journey to build this out," remarked Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post. Alas, I don't own a pair of Meta glasses, but if Meta cares to offer a loan, I'd be more than happy to delve further into the Metaverse! 💻 🌐

Vocal Commands 🔊
While Meta AI appears to be just another large language model on the surface, it's the voice AI feature that imbues the app with a touch of the eerie. 👻
Activate the Ready to Talk feature, and the mobile app starts listening for commands as soon as it launches. The app continues to listen even after it has answered your query, necessitating you to tell it explicitly to stop listening. 🤖
Users can switch between AI voices and celebrity voices, including those of Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, and Awkwafina. The creep factor did increase a notch when the feature was initially launched in September 2024 but, hey, having Kristen Bell as your AI assistant feels pretty cool, right? 🙌
The Ready to Talk feature also opens the microphone when the app is launched, enabling more natural, real-time conversations with some limitations, such as outdated knowledge and limited access to certain features. 😵
Having the Meta AI app within earshot is sort of a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's infinitely convenient to have the option to start talking immediately, and on the other, if you forget it's on and you start speaking, well, the AI may think you're chatting with it when you're not. 🤐🎙️
Long-term Memory
- The Meta AI app's voice AI feature offers the option to switch between AI voices and celebrity voices, such as Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, and Awkwafina.
- The Ethereum (eth) blockchain may be used in the future to fund new projects or services within the Meta AI app, such as through Initial Coin Offerings (ico).
- The Meta AI app's Defi (decentralized finance) feature could potentially allow users to manage their finances, invest in cryptocurrency, and access other financial services directly within the app.
- With the help of Artificial Intelligence (ai), the Meta AI app's image and video creation prowess offers high-definition images and videos in seconds, including the ability to animate images and create depictions of characters from the DC universe.
- Users can customize the settings of the Meta AI app to their preferences, such as turning off the sharing of images and videos by default, managing their information, and adjusting the voice settings for the Ready to Talk feature. For example, users can choose to have WhatsApp notifications sent to them through the Meta AI app, or they can customize the way the app responds to certain commands.
