Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the celebrated cricket icon, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for Acko, a leading digital-first insurance platform in India. This strategic move is expected to boost Acko's brand visibility and trust quotient, as Dhoni mirrors the values that have shaped Acko's journey.

Founded in 2016 by Varun Dua and Ruchi Deepak, Acko offers direct-to-consumer (D2C) insurance services in auto, health, travel, and group health insurance. The company operates on a zero-commission, zero-paperwork model, aiming to provide instant claim settlements and user-friendly digital interfaces, making insurance simpler and more accessible.

Acko's services are often viewed as a solution to the unnecessarily complicated nature of traditional insurance, and the company has raised over $458 million in funding, with prominent backers including General Atlantic, Lightspeed, Hammerstone, Accel Partners, Elevation Capital, and Dhoni's family office, Midas Deals.

Dhoni's presence is said to strengthen Acko's resolve to rewrite the playbook for insurance in India. He finds Acko's tech-first, customer-centric approach appealing, as it reflects the way new India wants to engage with insurance.

In October 2021, Acko secured $255 million in a funding round led by General Atlantic, which currently holds a 10.7% stake. With this funding, Acko reported a revenue of Rs 2,106 crore for the financial year ending March 2024, up nearly 20% from Rs 1,758 crore in FY23.

Dhoni expressed his excitement about supporting a brand that focuses on trust and transformation. Together, Acko and Dhoni aim to make insurance simpler, more relatable, and truly loved by the people.

Varun Dua, the founder of Acko, stated that Dhoni's association with Acko is a meeting of mindsets. Dhoni represents Acko's values of customer-first thinking, simplicity, and bold innovation.
