Fiat Grande Panda: A Compact SUV with a Retro-Inspired Design and Sustainable Features

The Fiat Grande Panda, introduced in January 2025, is a compact SUV that blends urban practicality with a rugged aesthetic. Built on the Smart Car platform, this vehicle shares technology with models like the Citroën C3.

The Grande Panda is available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) or a mild-hybrid (MHEV). The BEV version boasts a boot size of 361 litres, expanding to 412 litres in the MHEV. The BEV variant also features a pop-open Fiat badge that reveals the charging plug, and an integrated AC cable is available as an optional extra.

The side profile of the Grande Panda highlights its boxy look with sharp lines, a design that draws inspiration from the brand's past designs, specifically the original angular model. The plastic wheel arches break up the body-colour flow, adding to the car's rugged appearance.

The interior of the Grande Panda is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a smaller driver display. Comfort is not compromised, with the MHEV version offering more legroom for back-seat passengers. The steering wheel is chunky and ergonomic, with a flat bottom and top for improved driver legroom.

The Grande Panda's interior also features eco-friendly materials. Bamboo fibres are used in the top-range La Prima version for the dashboard, and the interior contains recycled materials from 140 drinks cartons. The design continues retro design cues, with an oval dashboard and center console designed in the shape of the Lingotto building's rooftop test track.

The high roof line provides plenty of headroom, even in a small car, and the rear of the Grande Panda features a high window and cubed lights in a cross formation. The front charging port can charge at up to 7kW, providing a 20% to 80% boost in four hours and 20 minutes. The rear charge port allows for DC rapid charging up to 100kW, completing a charge in 27 minutes.

The electric powertrain delivers an impressive driving range of 199 miles (320km) according to WLTP figures. The Panda name is stamped across the lower portion of the doors, giving the car a robust look. The rear of the car, with its distinctly square appearance and few curves, makes it suitable for urban use but also gives it a rugged look that would not be out of place in an off-road environment.

The Fiat Grande Panda in 2025 is manufactured by Fiat. With its combination of practicality, eco-friendliness, and retro design, it's a compact SUV that's sure to turn heads on the road.
