CNN Max Live News Stream Disappears, New Service Coming in 2025
CNN Max subscribers using the ad-supported tier lost access to the live news stream in March 2024. A wider impact is expected from Nov. 17, affecting Standard and Premium HBO Max subscribers. CNN plans to launch a new streaming service in the fall of 2025 to replace the short-lived CNN+.
CNN Max, a 24/7 live news stream, launched in the US in 2023. However, a shift occurred in March 2024 when ad-supported HBO Max subscribers lost access to this feature. Starting Nov. 17, Standard and Premium HBO Max subscribers will also be affected, marking a significant change in CNN's streaming strategy.
CNN's new streaming product, set to debut in the fall of 2025, aims to fill the gap left by the discontinued CNN+ service. While the name remains unannounced, the new platform is expected to replace CNN+ which failed to gain traction in 2022. Despite the removal of the CNN Max live news stream, select CNN Originals will continue to be available on HBO Max.
The loss of CNN Max's live news stream on HBO Max is a strategic move by CNN, paving the way for a new streaming service in 2025. While details are scarce, the new platform aims to learn from the shortcomings of CNN+ and provide a robust news streaming experience for subscribers.
