Cloud gaming service Nvidia GeForce Now receives significant technology advancement, maturing the realm of cloud gaming substantially
In a significant leap for cloud gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now Ultimate is set to receive a major upgrade in September. The update will see the integration of Nvidia's Blackwell architecture, bringing a host of improvements to the service.
One of the key features of the upgrade is the use of RTX 5080-class GPUs on the servers, paired with new Ryzen Threadripper Pro CPUs. This combination promises up to 2.8x faster frame rates than the previous RTX 4080 hardware, outperforming the PlayStation 5 Pro by over 3x. This boost in performance delivers 62 teraflops of compute power and a 48GB frame buffer, enabling richer textures and more realistic lighting for a superior gaming experience [1][3][4].
The upgrade also introduces DLSS 4 multi-frame generation, an advanced AI-powered feature that improves frame rates at higher resolutions by generating additional frames. This allows for smooth gameplay at up to 5K resolution and 120 FPS on cloud streams. The new hardware and DLSS 4 work together to significantly boost output FPS [1][2][4].
Ultra-high frame rate and low latency modes are also part of the update. The service introduces a new 360Hz mode for competitive gaming at 1080p resolution, facilitated by Nvidia Reflex technology to reduce click-to-pixel latency down to approximately 30 milliseconds. Network latency is targeted to be sub-30 milliseconds, marking a significant improvement in responsiveness [2][4].
A Cinematic Quality Streaming (CQS) mode will also be introduced, powered by the Blackwell GPUs. This mode offers a suite of image quality and streaming improvements designed to enhance visual fidelity and the overall player experience [4][5].
Streaming quality improvements are another aspect of the upgrade. The service now supports up to 5K streaming at 120 FPS, delivering vastly improved visuals and smoother gameplay for gamers on a wide range of devices [1][2][4].
Other enhancements include "Install-to-Play" allowing cloud installation of up to 100 GB per session, partnerships with broadband and mobile providers to reduce latency further and improve consistency, and the addition of Discord support [3][5].
With these enhancements, GeForce Now Ultimate aims to deliver one of the fastest and most visually advanced cloud gaming experiences available [1][2][3][4][5]. The upgrade will boost Ultimate members to RTX 5080 servers, providing a significant boost to gaming performance.
In addition, the GeForce Now game library will be expanded to include approximately 4,500 titles, almost doubling the current amount. This means that users will have access to a wider variety of games they already own from digital stores like Steam and Epic Games Store [6].
Finally, GeForce Now has seen off many rivals in the past decade, including Google's Stadia. The service continues to push the boundaries of cloud gaming, providing a superior experience for gamers worldwide.
