Square Enix Announces Release Date for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
After a prolonged wait, Square Enix has finally unveiled the release date for the much-anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, a remastered dual-pack of the first two installments from the acclaimed Dragon Quest series.
The highly anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is slated to launch on various platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (including the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2), PC via Windows and Steam, and the Microsoft Store on October 30, 2025. Notably, the Xbox version will support Xbox Play Anywhere, enabling seamless cross-platform play.
Pre-orders for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake are now live across all aforementioned platforms, alongside a special Collector's Edition, which is exclusive to Square Enix's official website. The Collector's Edition includes a physical copy of the game, acrylic blocks featuring characters and monsters from the game, an Outstanding Outfit Kit, pre-order bonus in-game items, two exclusive digital wallpapers, and a Marvellous Makeover Kit (containing a dog suit for Dragon Quest I and a cat suit for Dragon Quest II).
Players who have save data for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on the same platform can benefit from bonus in-game outfits in Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. These outfits consist of a dog suit for Dragon Quest I and a cat suit for Dragon Quest II, respectively.
The upcoming remake promises several significant changes compared to the original games, including enhanced graphics, gameplay refinements, updated storytelling, and added content to extend playtime. The HD-2D visual style combines 2D character models with a 3D environment, offering a more vibrant and detailed aesthetic compared to previous HD-2D games.
