Gebrüder Weiss Romania Installs Solar Panels at Popeshti-Leordeni Hub

Gebrüder Weiss, a global logistics company, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by installing a solar panel system at its logistics hub in Popeshti-Leordeni, Romania. The system, which covers approximately 1,635 square meters on the roof of the cross-dock and logistics warehouse, consists of 674 solar panels and has an installed capacity of 300 kWp.

This move is part of Gebrüder Weiss's broader plan to build an energy-efficient logistics infrastructure. The company has already installed 34 photovoltaic systems across Europe, producing over 13,000 MWh per year. These systems have cut more than 2,700 tons of CO2 emissions, and the shift in Romania is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 48.85 tons annually.

Viorel Leca, Managing Director of Gebrüder Weiss Romania, made a statement about the initiative, expressing the company's commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. The energy generated will be used for on-site consumption, powering both the office building and warehouse operations. Gebrüder Weiss Romania aims for this building to become fully green in the coming years.

The company's sustainability efforts extend beyond Romania. In 2024, the company made around 13,000 electric vehicle deliveries and generated revenues of EUR 2.71 billion. Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG, the parent company, is headquartered in Lauterach, Austria, and operates approximately 180 company-owned locations with around 8,600 employees.

As part of its green energy strategy, Gebrüder Weiss is also considering expanding its solar energy initiative to its Sibiu hub. For precise data on Gebrüder Weiss Romania's solar projects, sustainability impacts, energy figures, CO2 reduction, and expansion plans, further research is recommended. Consulting official Gebrüder Weiss Romania corporate sustainability reports or press releases, local Romanian energy and business news covering renewable installations, and environmental agencies or industry platforms tracking solar energy initiatives in Romanian logistics hubs would provide more detailed information.

This shift towards renewable energy is expected to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and achieve about 20% energy autonomy for Gebrüder Weiss Romania. As the company continues to grow and expand its sustainability initiatives, it is poised to make a significant contribution to both corporate and EU green energy targets.

Science plays a crucial role in Gebruder Weiss's strategic shift towards sustainable energy sources, as the company uses technological advancements to optimize its solar panel systems. The environmental science behind renewable energy is instrumental in reducing the company's carbon footprint and contributing to global efforts against climate change.
