Bre.Bike Hits 26,000 Users, 250,000 Rentals in Six Months
Bre.Bike, Bremen's citywide bike-sharing system, has seen remarkable growth since its launch six months ago. With over 26,000 registered users as of September 25, 2025, the system is proving to be a resounding success.
Operated by Nextbike GmbH from Leipzig, Bre.Bike began on April 1, 2025, with 1,000 bicycles, including 40 cargo bicycles. The system has since expanded to 1,450 standard bicycles and 60 cargo bicycles, with plans to reach 1,450 standard and 60 cargo bicycles by the end of the five-year concession.
The city has invested in the system through the mobility construction local law (MobBauOG), using redemption amounts. This has allowed for the establishment of over 40 bike-sharing stations, with more locations in the approval or planning process. The system aims to provide a low-threshold mobile supplement to public transport, enabling mobile participation without owning a bicycle.
Bre.Bike has recorded over 250,000 rentals since its launch, with a significant increase in usage in August, totaling 60,000 rentals. This growth reflects the system's popularity and integration into the city's mobility infrastructure.
With over 26,000 registered users and over 250,000 rentals, Bre.Bike is transforming Bremen's mobility landscape. The system's success is evident in its rapid growth, with plans to further expand the fleet of bicycles and stations. The city's investment in the system is paying off, providing a convenient, low-cost mobility option for Bremen residents and visitors.
