BMW's X4 Goes All-Electric: Last ICE Models End in 2025, iX4 Arrives in 2027
BMW has announced a significant shift in its X4 model range. The popular Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) will not see a successor with an internal combustion engine, with the last gasoline and diesel variants set to roll off the production line by the end of 2025. Instead, the Bavarian automaker is planning an all-electric future for the X4, with the BMW iX4 slated to arrive in 2027.
The current BMW X4, available in gasoline (20i, 30i, M40i) and diesel (20d, 30d, M40d) variants, will cease production by the end of November 2025. The German configurator no longer lists gasoline X4 models, which ended production on September 30, 2025. The all-electric BMW iX4 (codename NA7) is expected to mirror the iX3's initial offerings, with 50 xDrive, 40 xDrive, and 40 sDrive flavors. BMW is also rumored to introduce an M Performance iX4 M60 in Spring 2027, potentially followed by a full-fledged X4 M (ZA7) to complete the lineup.
The BMW iX4 is expected to be produced at BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, with production scheduled to begin in November 2026. This marks a significant step towards BMW's commitment to electrify its model range, with the iX4 set to replace the conventional X4 in the company's production lineup.
The BMW X4's internal combustion engine era is coming to an end, with the last gasoline and diesel models set to cease production by the end of 2025. The all-electric BMW iX4 is expected to take over, with initial variants mirroring the iX3 and an M Performance model rumored for 2027. BMW's commitment to electrification is clear, with the iX4 set to enter production at the Debrecen plant in late 2026.
