BMW Retires X4, 8-Series, and Z4 Models with No Successors Planned
BMW has announced the retirement of several models, including the X4, 8-Series, and Z4. The Z4 will remain on sale until 2026, but production will cease in spring 2026 with no successor planned. The X4 and 8-Series will also see their final model years in 2026, with special editions marking their end.
The outgoing models have not been top sellers. Between January and August 2025, they accounted for only a small fraction of BMW's total sales in Germany. The X4, 8-Series, and Z4 models debuted in 2018 but failed to meet sales expectations, leading BMW to decide against future replacements.
The X4's role will be taken over by the smaller X2, and rumors suggest an electric iX4 is in the works. The 8-Series' final model year will be 2026, with the M850i Edition M Heritage serving as its swan song. The Z4 will also end production in spring 2026, with no successor planned.
