BMW Ponders Over Potential Heirs to its 4 Series and 8 Series Coupe Designs

BMW, a brand renowned for its passion for cars, finds itself in a state of uncertainty when it comes to its iconic coupe models. The BMW 8 Series, a high-end luxury vehicle, is nearing the end of its production run, with an official date yet to be announced. The 8 Series is almost entirely phased out, leaving fans wondering about its successor.

Meanwhile, the BMW 4 Series, a more affordable yet still coveted model, continues to be offered. It has been on sale since 2021 and received a facelift for the 2025 model year. Rumours suggest that the 4 Series may stay in production until 2028. However, BMW has not yet confirmed if electric and gas-powered coupes are on the horizon.

BMW's Senior Vice President, BMW Brand and Product Management, Bernd Koerber, emphasizes the importance of 'profitable niche' vehicles. He acknowledges that the economic viability of offering coupes is a consideration, but also emphasizes that the brand is composed of car lovers and will always try to find ways to offer coupes.

Bernd Koerber also points out that BMW views internal combustion and electrification on a 'continuum'. This suggests that the brand is open to exploring both traditional and electric powertrains for its future coupe models.

Despite the uncertainty, BMW is looking for ways to continue offering coupes, even if there are technological or architectural obstacles. Normally, facelifts (or LCI) only come when a car has hit the halfway point in its scheduled production run. However, the 4 Series' facelift came earlier than expected, indicating a willingness to adapt and innovate.

In conclusion, while the future of BMW's coupe models is uncertain, the brand's commitment to offering these beloved vehicles remains strong. It may be some time before we see a truly new version of either the 8 Series or the 4 Series, but BMW fans can rest assured that the brand is working hard to find ways to keep these iconic models on the road.
