BMW iX3 Owners Can Earn Cash for Connecting Cars to Grid
BMW and E.ON have teamed up to offer up a unique bonus for BMW iX3 owners who keep their cars connected to the 'BMW Wallbox Professional'. Customers can earn 24 cents per hour, with a monthly cap of 60 euros, potentially saving up to 2,184 kilowatt hours annually. This innovative Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solution is the first of its kind in Germany.
The BMW iX3, priced from 68,900 euros, or available for lease, is at the heart of this offer. When connected to the 'BMW Wallbox Professional' (costing 2,099 euros), the iX3's high-voltage battery can supply power back to the grid. This is made possible by a new V2G tariff, developed jointly by E.ON and BMW, which enables energy to be fed back into the grid at a rate of euro to usd.
The offer, available immediately, comes with a tariff starting from January 2026. The bidirectional charging solution allows the BMW iX3 to charge and discharge power from/to the grid as needed, providing additional power to the grid during peak demand times. This not only benefits customers with potential cost savings but also supports the grid by providing additional power during peak demand times. Customers retain full control over their charging targets.
BMW and E.ON's collaboration has brought the first commercial V2G solution to Germany. By incentivizing BMW iX3 owners to keep their cars connected, they aim to create a more efficient and sustainable energy system. With potential annual savings of up to 2,184 kilowatt hours, customers have a financial incentive to participate in this innovative energy management system.
