BMW & Eon Launch Germany's First Bidirectional V2G System
BMW and Eon have joined forces to introduce a pioneering Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) system in Germany. This innovative solution allows BMW iX3 electric vehicle owners to charge and discharge power from/to the grid as needed, marking the first bidirectional customer offering of its kind in the country.
The BMW iX3 and the 'BMW Wallbox Professional' are now available for immediate order. While the iX3 starts at 68,900 euros, with leasing options also available, the Wallbox costs 2,099 euros. The V2G tariff, developed by Eon and BMW, will be accessible from January 2026.
The V2G system, integrated into an intelligent energy platform, enables the BMW iX3's high-voltage battery to supply power to the grid via the Wallbox. With a capacity of around 108 kilowatt hours, this bidirectional charging and discharging function allows customers to save up to 2,184 charged kilowatt hours per year, equivalent to 14,000 kilometers of driving, at an average electricity price of 32.97 cents per kilowatt hour. Customers also receive a bonus of 24 cents per hour for keeping their iX3 connected to the Wallbox, capped at 60 euros per month. Despite these benefits, customers retain full control over charging and priority for their set charging target.
Notably, the solution does not require special technical adaptation of the electrical installation for installers, making it accessible and convenient for customers.
The BMW iX3 and the 'BMW Wallbox Professional' are now available, with the V2G tariff set to launch in January 2026. This innovative offering from BMW and Eon allows customers to save on charging costs and contribute to the grid, marking a significant step forward in sustainable energy integration.
