BlackRock's Cryptocurrency Holdings Skyrocket as Bitcoin and Ethereum Approach New All-Time Highs - Here's the Breakdown of the Figures

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has seen its cryptocurrency holdings soar past the $100 billion mark, according to recent data. The growth in BlackRock's crypto portfolio has been primarily driven by Bitcoin and Ethereum, with Bitcoin accounting for about 85% of the portfolio and Ethereum showing the most dramatic growth.

As of mid-August 2025, BlackRock holds approximately 744,240 BTC worth $88.43 billion, representing about 85% of the portfolio. Since the start of the year, Bitcoin's volume has grown by about 34%, and its value has increased by about 74%.

Ethereum, on the other hand, forms a smaller but rapidly expanding part of BlackRock's crypto holdings. The firm currently holds around 3.2 million ETH, worth approximately $14.78 billion. Ethereum's dollar value surged 309% year-to-date, with a 198% increase in the number of coins held compared to the beginning of the year.

The rebound in BlackRock's crypto holdings, which dipped to a low of about $46 billion in early April, has been fueled by strong institutional demand, ETF inflows, and optimism around regulatory progress in the US. The firm has been strategically increasing Ethereum exposure as a diversification beyond Bitcoin, seeing Ethereum as a key infrastructure layer in the blockchain economy.

Notably, Ethereum almost reached its 2021 peak price of $4,878, and Bitcoin briefly broke above $124,000 on August 14, 2025, setting new all-time highs for both cryptocurrencies.

BlackRock continues to dominate in terms of assets under management (AUM) in cryptocurrency, demonstrating the growing institutional interest in digital assets. The firm's crypto portfolio has surpassed $100 billion, with Bitcoin still accounting for more than 85% of the allocation. Despite Ethereum's rapid growth, it still remains considerably smaller than Bitcoin in BlackRock's portfolio.
