In a significant move, PENN Entertainment, the American gaming and entertainment company, spent $2.1 billion in October 2021 to acquire theScore, a Toronto-based media and sports betting company. The acquisition marks a strategic step for PENN Entertainment, as they aim to connect with customers on a more personal level and quickly add new features and betting markets.

The platform overhaul for Barstool Sportsbook, a mid-tier sportsbook in terms of betting volume, began on Sunday evening and could last up to 72 hours. During this time, the site displays a message saying it is upgrading to improve the app experience and offer more markets and wagering options.

PENN has been working diligently since then to ready the new system for use across the U.S. The new platform, developed by TRUEiGTECH, is expected to offer many more appealing features for customers, including faster load times, more player props, more bet offers exclusive to Barstool, enhanced promotions, and integration with theScore media app.

The new system was designed with the intention of driving stronger loyalty and retention. Users can rest assured that their account balance is secured throughout the upgrade process and their account information and settings will remain the same. Any pending wagers will automatically carry over to the new Barstool Sportsbook & Casino experience.

In the future, logins will use customers' email addresses instead of their user names, making it easier for users to access their accounts. The new system was unveiled to its theScore Bet customers in Canada last year.

It's worth noting that Barstool Sportsbook has been using Kambi's European sports betting technology since its launch in Pennsylvania in September 2020. Kambi also serves multiple other sports betting operators in the U.S., including BetRivers and betPARX.

The shutdown was announced to customers in 16 states via email on Friday. The new Barstool Sportsbook & Casino is expected to be available for use again by Wednesday evening. This platform upgrade is an exciting development for Barstool Sportsbook, as it promises to enhance the iCasino product with new content and bonus mechanics, further solidifying its position in the competitive sports betting market.
