Artificial Intelligence and Hybrid Cloud Expansion Overpowering Security Measures According to Tenable
In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, the need for dynamic and future-proof defenses has never been more pressing. This is according to Jim Reavis, co-founder and CEO of the Cloud Security Alliance, who emphasized the importance of such defenses in keeping pace with advancements in both cloud and AI.
Recent statistics support this notion. Over 82% of businesses now operate in hybrid environments, managing an average of 2.7 cloud environments. Moreover, more than half of organizations are deploying AI for business needs. However, a new report from Tenable, titled "State of Cloud and AI Security 2025," warns that the rapid adoption of hybrid, multi-cloud, and AI systems is outpacing existing security strategies, creating blind spots.
The report, based on the responses of over 1,000 security and IT professionals worldwide, indicates that security solutions often operate in silos, resulting in limited risk control and critical gaps in visibility and monitoring. This fragmentation is particularly evident in the shift to hybrid and AI environments, which creates fragmented systems with major blind spots for security teams.
To address these challenges, Tenable expanded its Tenable One Exposure Management platform in August 2021. The enhancement aims to prevent security risks arising from generative artificial intelligence. The AI Exposure solution, as it is called, is intended to provide a comprehensive approach to managing and controlling security risks in AI-driven workloads.
The risks of standing still are growing by the day, as per Reavis. Many security strategies are currently behind the curve, and the report warns that 34% of AI workloads have already resulted in cloud data breaches. Tenable warns that these gaps can lead to disjointed visibility, inconsistent identity governance, and weaknesses in risk monitoring that attackers can exploit.
The AI Exposure solution is a significant step towards building adaptive, future-ready defenses. These adaptive defenses, according to Reavis, should be capable of evolving as fast as the technology they safeguard. The solution is designed to help organizations rethink their approach and address the security challenges posed by the rapid adoption of hybrid and AI environments.
In a world where over 63% of businesses use more than one cloud provider, the need for a unified approach to security is paramount. Tenable's AI Exposure solution is a step in that direction, aiming to help businesses manage and control security risks emerging from generative AI, ensuring they stay ahead of the curve in this rapidly evolving landscape.
