Apple Invests €100m in Schroders' China Renewable Energy Strategy

Schroders Capital Infrastructure has secured the first close of its China Renewable Energy Strategy with a significant €100m anchor investment from tech giant Apple. This move aligns with China's growing commitment to renewable energy and its impact on global emissions.

China, responsible for nearly a third of current global emissions, has seen a dip in carbon output. This occurred alongside increasing power demand, driven by a rapid expansion of renewable capacity. The country's surge in renewable energy is set to accelerate a sharp fall in global fossil fuel demand from 2030 onwards.

In 2024, China committed a substantial $625bn to clean energy, making it the single largest investor in the transition and accountable for nearly a third of all global funding. This commitment is supported by domestic institutions, with 73% now recognising the financial materiality of climate change. BlackRock and BNP Paribas Asset Management are among the international firms investing in and tracking China's renewable energy progress. President Xi Jinping has announced plans to cut China's carbon footprint by 7-10% over the next decade, with the country recently reporting its first sustained dip in carbon output.

Apple's €100m investment in Schroders Capital Infrastructure's China Renewable Energy Strategy underscores the growing global interest in China's renewable energy sector. This strategic move is expected to accelerate China's transition to cleaner energy, further impacting global emissions and fossil fuel demand.
