Annual Recognition of Outstanding Privacy Research to Occur at the 15th Privacy Papers for Policymakers Ceremony on our Website
The 2025 Privacy Papers for Policymakers Awards (PPPM Awards) are set to honour leading privacy scholarship that is relevant to policymakers. This prestigious event, organised by the Federal Privacy Forum (FPF), a global non-profit focused on data protection headquartered in Washington, D.C., will take place on March 12, 2025, at FPF's offices in the heart of the nation's capital.
The PPPM Awards ceremony promises to be an exciting event, open to the public and free of charge. Six winning papers, one student submission, and one honorable mention were selected by a diverse group of leading academics, advocates, and industry privacy professionals from FPF's Advisory Board.
Among the winning papers are "Authoritarian Privacy" by Mark Jia from Georgetown University Law Center, "The Great Scrape: The Clash between Scraping And Privacy" by Daniel J. Solove and George Washington University Law School and Woodrow Hartzog, "Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall, Who's the Fairest of Them All?" by Alice Xiang from Sony Group Corporation and Sony AI, "The Overton Window and Privacy Enforcement" by Alicia Solow-Niederman from George Washington University Law School, and "Personhood Credentials: Artificial intelligence and the value of privacy-preserving tools to distinguish who is real online" by Steven Adler, et al.

A Student Paper Honorable Mention was given to "Artificial Intelligence is like a Perpetual Stew" by Nathan Reitinger from the University of Maryland - Department of Computer Science.
The ceremony will provide winners with the opportunity to showcase their work and have conversations with discussants, including James Cooper, Jennifer Huddleston, and Brenda Leong. FPF believes technology and data can benefit society and improve lives if the right laws, policies, and rules are in place. The event aims to bring together academics, civil society, government officials, and industry to evaluate the societal, policy, and legal implications of data use, identify the risks, and develop appropriate protections.
