Announcement of the Halo Awards Winners 2020 Revealed

The Halo Awards, an accolade for outstanding AR, VR, and MR projects, took place digitally on November 4th. Hosted on our World website, the event brought together international XR experts from PTC, Moodify, Virtual Switzerland, and Techer Team to recognize ten immersive projects. These awards are designed to highlight exceptional European works, performances, and projects, with the aim of setting a high standard in the VR, AR, and MR community.

Categories for the awards included Best Training Application, Best Co-Working Application, Best Industrial Application, Best Education Application, Best Therapy Application, Best Research Application, Best Non-fiction, Best Fiction, Best Game, and the Special New Horizons Award.

In the Best Training Application category, AGOGY's XR Fire Trainer was the winner. A collaboration with CLARTE, a VR laboratory based in Laval, this AR simulator allows trainees to practice fire extinguishing directly in their work environment.

Aptero Virtual Collaboration secured the Best Co-Working Application award. Aptero provides a 3D virtual room available on various devices, making it easy for users to attend meetings and trainings. This solution has been adopted by international clients such as Paris Airport and l'Oréal.

The XR for Industry 4.0 project developed by TU Delft won the Best Industrial Application. This research aims to support 'Operator 4.0', a worker in an advanced, information-rich production system. The information gathered can improve the worker's capabilities, operation efficiency, and facilitate sustainable development through remote prototyping and reduced hardware needs for testing and simulation.

The WDR AR 1933-1945 app from WDR Doku&Digital was the Best Education Application winner. Using AR, it offers a unique way of storytelling by bringing contemporary witnesses' World War II experiences into the user's home.

The Challenge project from Khora Studio won the Best Therapy Application. This VR simulation aims to help individuals who suffer from auditory hallucinations, specifically those hearing malevolent voices, which is a common symptom of schizophrenia and paranoid schizophrenia.

Holoball, developed by Toshikazu Oshima, won the Best Research Application. This interactive virtual model allows students to learn about biology with a tangible interface, providing a realistic laboratory experience without harming any living organisms.

"When We Stayed Home" from TARGO was named Best Non-Fiction. This series of VR documentaries offers a firsthand, eerie exploration of iconic cities under lockdown during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the Best Fiction category, Passenger, created by Diversion Cinema, was the winner. This 360-degree stop-motion VR film focuses on arriving in a new country, with a taxi driver guiding the protagonist through their unfamiliar surroundings while sharing fragments of his own experiences.

Under the Pillow: Kitten Mormitten, designed by Georgy Molodtsov, was named Best Game. This project, currently in VR preview, presents a toy-helper kitten aimed at assisting parents and children navigate through various challenges.

The Special New Horizons Award went to META.SPACE VR Platform from INVR.SPACE. This virtual reality production studio offers concept design, consulting, and production services, enabling clients to create and postproduce immersive and engaging 360 / VR content.

While the Halo Awards may not be widely recognized in major industry sources, this event serves as an opportunity to unite the VR, AR, and MR community in passion, excellence, and innovation.
