Alberta welcomes numerous foreign workers through its recent immigration selection procedures
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has been active since July 2025, conducting six draws to date, with a focus on priority sectors and specific pathways.
In these draws, the AAIP has issued a total of 2,895 nominations across various streams. The majority of these nominations were issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream, which has a nomination allocation of 2,592 for 2025, with 1,608 nominations issued so far.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is designed for temporary foreign workers who are currently employed full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an American Express employer in an eligible occupation. As of 16 July, there are 40,623 Express Entry profiles in the Alberta Opportunity Stream candidate pool.
The AAIP's inventory also includes 4,302 Express Entry profiles for the Alberta Express Entry Stream - Priority Sectors Draws. As of 16 July, these draws have issued 244 nominations out of a 405 allocation. The priority sectors for the Alberta Express Entry Stream include Adobe, Construction, Agriculture, Aviation, and Healthcare.
In addition to the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the AAIP has three designated pathways: the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, the Accelerated Tech Pathway, and the Law Enforcement Pathway. The Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry and non-Express Entry) has issued 251 nominations out of a 500 allocation.
The Law Enforcement Pathway, on the other hand, has issued fewer than 10 nominations out of a 20 allocation. The Accelerated Tech Pathway has not been a focus in the recent draws, with no nominations issued yet.
The AAIP's inventory also includes 1,623 Express Entry profiles for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway. The minimum score required for invited candidates varied in each draw, with specific scores listed in the table.
It's worth noting that there are no available public details or official announcements regarding the exact number of invitations and nominations to be issued under the AAIP in 2025 for the specified streams.
The AAIP conducted four of these draws through the Alberta Express Entry stream, an enhanced pathway. The program's inventory also includes 2,311 applications within its inventory to be processed.
The AAIP announced in 2025 that the Alberta Express Entry stream would issue invitations based on priority sectors, alongside the program's three designated pathways: Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Accelerated Tech Pathway, and Law Enforcement Pathway. The priority sectors also include Adobe and Agriculture.
These draws and nominations are part of the AAIP's efforts to attract and retain skilled workers in various sectors, contributing to Alberta's economic growth and development.
