Airbus Breaks Ground on Hydrogen Aircraft Fire Safety Center

Airbus has started construction of a new news center for fire protection of hydrogen-powered aircraft at Bremen Airport City. The first sod was turned on February 29, 2023, with Dr. Sabine Klauke, Dr. Joachim Betker, and Kristina Vogt in attendance. The center, set to be completed in the third quarter of 2025, will occupy a 2,400 square meter plot near the Bremen Airbus plant and Ecomat research center. It will house six differently sized fire laboratories, allowing for original-sized aircraft components to be tested in a hydrogen environment. Airbus aims to introduce its first hydrogen-powered aircraft model by 2035. The findings from this news center will be crucial in developing new safety standards for the hydrogen-powered aircraft industry, in collaboration with aviation authorities. The new news center is a significant step towards making hydrogen-powered aircraft a reality. Upon completion in late 2025, it will provide vital insights into fire behavior in a hydrogen environment, paving the way for safer, more sustainable air travel.
